Why the average is about $700: most Redding removals are medium trees — mature ornamentals, dying pines, and blue oaks in the 30–60 ft bracket — with a meaningful minority of large or emergency jobs pulling the average up from the middle of that bracket. How to get an accurate quote (5-step checklist)

Permits and licensing in Redding — what affects the bill

Inside Redding city limits, the City's Tree Management Ordinance (Redding Municipal Code Chapter 18.45) requires a tree removal permit for any tree over 6 inches in diameter at breast height unless the property is exempt — and a fully built single-family lot generally is (§18.45.040.B.3). Vacant lots, large parcels zoned for more units than they have, trees on the City's landmark and heritage plan, and trees a development approval required to be kept are not exempt.
